On Christmas Eve, hospital staff tend to a series of urgent cases while facing personal struggles of their own.

In the emergency department of a district hospital, the doctors and nurses have plenty to do, as they do every year—especially on Christmas Eve. Despite their own problems, they rise to the challenges of an eventful night. Little Tobias has collapsed at the Christmas market, and it now turns out that the boy has a life-threatening brain tumor and needs immediate surgery. Retiree Lili comforts him, although she had come to the emergency department only to escape her loneliness that evening. In addition, Pastor Darius Horwath is admitted with a broken arm and is immediately cared for by Nurse Farki, who has secretly been in love with Horwath for a long time. Karina Meisner’s suicide attempt also requires treatment, and hospital psychologist Dr. Holling has to attend to her.
