A modern-day descendant of Van Helsing must face a primordial vampire who is revealed to be the biblical Judas Iscariot.

The story

In 2000 London, wealthy antiquary Matthew Van Helsing runs an antique shop inherited from his grandfather, Abraham Van Helsing. When a group of thieves breaks into the shop, they discover and accidentally awaken a sealed silver coffin containing the withered body of Dracula. The group flees to New Orleans with the coffin, where Dracula attacks and vampirizes them. Meanwhile, Dracula establishes a telepathic link with Mary Heller, an English expatriate haunted by dreams of the vampire. As Van Helsing pursues the monster, he discovers that Mary is his contemporary daughter, born into a shared bloodline with the vampire himself.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 2000 London, Matthew Van Helsing runs an antique shop on the site of Carfax Abbey. A heist team led by Solina and Marcus breaks in, discovering a silver coffin. After impaling two members, the group flees to New Orleans with the coffin. Aboard the plane, they unlock it, awakening Dracula, who vampirizes the group. Dracula establishes a telepathic link with Mary Heller, an English expatriate. In New Orleans, Dracula kills an anchorwoman and seeks Mary. Van Helsing, who has survived since 1897 by harvesting vampire blood, pursues him. It is revealed that Mary is Van Helsing's contemporary daughter, born of a shared bloodline. Dracula seduces and vampirizes Mary's friend, Lucy, then confronts and kills Van Helsing. Mary finds her father's body and is ambushed by Dracula and his brides. Simon saves Mary, but Dracula abducts her. On a rooftop, Dracula reveals he is Judas Iscariot, cursed by God with eternal life as the world's first vampire. He seeks to overrun the world with vampires as revenge against Jesus. Mary feigns biting Simon but instead stabs Dracula. She loops a crucifix cable around his neck and drags him off the roof as the sun consumes him. Mary returns to the UK to watch over Dracula's remains, though her eyes briefly flicker with an eerie glow.

Production trivia
Wes Craven's name was used heavily in marketing despite him only being an executive producer.; The film's production was notably rushed, with a rough cut assembled in just six days.; The studio's reason for moving forward with the script despite it being called 'terrible' was simply because it was titled 'Dracula 2000'.
