Full plot (contains spoilers)

Four couples travel to the Bahamas for a marriage retreat. Sheila and Troy arrive first, followed by Patricia and Gavin, Terry and Dianne, and Angela and Marcus. The group separates to discuss their marriages, but the arrival of Sheila's ex-husband, Mike, creates friction. Mike apologizes to Sheila for past betrayals, but she maintains her commitment to Troy. Meanwhile, Dianne admits to an emotional affair with Terry, and Angela becomes suspicious of Marcus's infidelity. Tensions boil over when Patricia announces her divorce from Gavin during the ceremony. Back in Atlanta, Gavin and Patricia engage in a bitter legal battle over her book earnings. Gavin eventually assaults Patricia and burns their son's photos before being struck and killed by a truck. After a period of mourning, the group reconciles. One year later, Patricia meets a philanthropist named Daniel Franklin, who acknowledges how her books helped him grieve his own divorce.
