The story
Set in the Land of Oz, the film follows the lives of Elphaba and Glinda as they navigate their new identities as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good. Following the events of the first film, Elphaba remains a defiant figure fighting for animal rights from a hidden location, while Glinda has become the Wizard's public spokesperson. As the realm celebrates the opening of the Yellow Brick Road, the two women find their paths crossing once more. The story explores their evolving relationship and the growing conflict between their personal convictions and the political landscape of Oz.

Following the events of the first film, Elphaba Thropp lives in hiding as the Wicked Witch of the West, while Glinda Upland serves as the Wizard's spokesperson. When the Yellow Brick Road opens, tensions rise as Elphaba attempts to liberate animals from the Wizard's control. During a chaotic sequence involving a forced marriage and a magical storm created by Madame Morrible, Elphaba and Glinda's paths collide. Elphaba eventually faces a mob in the Emerald City, leading to a tearful farewell where she appears to perish in a burst of water. In the aftermath, it is revealed that the Wizard is Elphaba's biological father, and Glinda must step up to restore order to Oz. Ultimately, Elphaba is revealed to have faked her death to protect Glinda's reputation, and she departs Oz with Fiyero, who has been transformed into the Scarecrow.
