The story
Thilo and Mona Wagner's marriage is going through a rough patch, so they take a holiday together on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, hoping it will help. After arriving safely by plane, they drive to their hotel. There, they encounter the aftermath of a boat carrying completely exhausted African refugees running aground. Among the refugees is eleven-year-old Jamaal, who approaches the newly arrived couple with his troubles. He has heard that they come from Germany, where his father currently lives, and asks to spend the holiday with them before flying to Germany in their company.
