In Austria-Hungary, in the “good old days”: Lilly von Fahrnbach, the daughter of an imperial-royal colonel, has fallen in love with young Pepi Pfundmeier. Because her father is so fond of all things military, Pepi promptly pretends to be a lieutenant so as not to ruin his chances with the colonel’s daughter from the outset. One day, Pepi receives orders to report for duty as a reservist. He now has his hands full trying to avoid the father and keep everyone happy. As expected, this leads to numerous complications and causes quite a commotion among the troops. In the end, Colonel Fahrnbach is willing after all to give his Lilly in marriage to the young man.
