A museum robbery releases an ancient Djinn who begins collecting souls in exchange for wishes.

The story

During a museum robbery, a stray gunshot releases an ancient Djinn from a fire opal. A young burglar, Morgana Truscott, steals the gem but is forced to flee, leaving her accomplice behind. The Djinn assumes the human persona of Nathaniel Demerest and surrenders to the police. While in prison, Demerest grants wishes to inmates in exchange for their souls. Morgana, plagued by nightmares of the Djinn's true form, seeks help from a former lover, Gregory. She begins researching Persian mythology to find a way to return the Djinn to its prison, discovering that only someone pure of heart can fulfill the prophecy.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

During a museum robbery, a stray gunshot releases an ancient Djinn from a fire opal. Morgana Truscott steals the gem and flees, while the Djinn kills her accomplice and assumes the identity of Nathaniel Demerest. In prison, Demerest grants wishes to inmates for their souls, including a man named Butz who is beaten by his own henchmen. Morgana, haunted by nightmares, seeks help from her former lover Gregory. She learns the Djinn seeks 800 souls and discovers the incantation to imprison him. Demerest escapes prison with a Russian inmate, Osip. In Las Vegas, the Djinn collects more souls from casino patrons. Morgana and Gregory confront Demerest; Gregory wishes the Djinn back to hell, transporting them into the fire opal where Gregory is crucified. Morgana, having restored her purity by wishing for the guard she killed to live, speaks the alchemist's chant, "Nib Sugurath Baheim." The Djinn is banished back into the opal, and all victims are returned to life.
