A grieving woman uses advanced biotechnology to clone her deceased lover, only to face the psychological consequences of raising his genetic copy as her own son.

The story

The film begins on a foggy beach where a heavily pregnant woman reminisces about her past. The narrative shifts to a childhood love story between Rebecca and Tommy, who are separated when Rebecca moves to Japan. Twelve years later, they reunite and begin a new relationship. Tommy, a political activist, plans to protest a biotech corporation's new natural park. During a drive to the site, Tommy is suddenly struck and killed by a vehicle. Stricken with grief, Rebecca decides to use scientific advancements to have Tommy cloned, leading her to seek his father's permission to use his DNA.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After Tommy's death, Rebecca conceives his clone in her womb and gives birth via Caesarean section. She raises the clone, now named Tommy, as her son. As he grows, the neighborhood reacts with prejudice toward 'copies,' eventually isolating Tommy from his peers. Rebecca moves them to a remote location to shield him. Years later, Tommy becomes an adult and begins to resemble the original Tommy more closely. When he brings home a girlfriend, the tension between Rebecca and the clone reaches a breaking point. Tommy's original mother arrives unexpectedly, causing him to feel a strange recognition. Frustrated by Rebecca's lack of transparency, Tommy demands answers. Rebecca shows him photos of the original Tommy's life, leading to a violent confrontation where Tommy rapes her, briefly hallucinating that she is the original woman. The next day, Tommy packs his belongings and leaves Rebecca, thanking her for the life she provided.
