Full plot (contains spoilers)
The young Cheung Yan attempts suicide and claims that she can see ghosts. She rents an apartment from Mr. Chu, who is overly talkative and seems insane, and after some time begins to believe that she sees the ghosts of Mr. Chu’s deceased wife and daughter there. Her cousin’s husband, Dr. Wilson Chan, recommends that she see Dr. Jim Law, a skeptical psychiatrist who specializes in ghost hallucinations. Jim and Yan fall in love and begin dating. As Jim learns more about Yan, his repressed memories begin to resurface. He starts sleepwalking and, at night, begins persistently searching for something in his apartment. Eventually, he remembers Yu, his first teenage love, who committed suicide, and begins to believe that her ghost is haunting him and wants him to jump from a roof just as she did. At the end of his despair, he stands on the edge of a roof, ready to jump. Yu’s ghost appears before him and kisses him as Jim begs her to forgive him. The ghost vanishes at dawn, as Yan comes up to the roof.
