A persistent freeloader is persuaded to step into the boxing ring against Spain’s champion.
The story
Roque Tercero González is a freeloader living in the home of his friend Federico, a celebrated former racing jockey whose weight gain has derailed his career. Roque continually reminds Federico that he saved his life when they were both seven, making it difficult for Federico to send him away. At a gym, Federico hopes to lose enough weight to ride again and learns that Kid Botija, Spain’s welterweight champion, needs an opponent for a title defense to qualify for the European boxing championship. With no one eager to face the champion, Federico and gym owner Paco persuade Roque to take the fight—without telling him the full truth.
