Full plot (contains spoilers)

Stacy Friedman dreams of a perfect bat mitzvah with her best friend Lydia Rodriguez Katz, but the plans go awry as both girls compete for the attention of Andy Goldfarb. After a humiliating dare at a ledge leads to a falling out, Stacy feels betrayed when she learns Lydia and Andy are dating. Stacy begins sabotaging Lydia's bat mitzvah preparations, including creating a humiliating entrance video. Meanwhile, Stacy tries to win over Andy by pretending to volunteer at his grandmother's retirement home. During a secret moment with Andy, they are interrupted by a rabbi, causing more friction with Stacy's father. At Lydia's bat mitzvah, the sabotaged video is accidentally played by Lydia's mother, causing a public scene. On her own bat mitzvah day, Stacy confesses her actions to the audience and berates Andy for his behavior. She then runs through town to apologize to Lydia, inviting her to her party. The girls reconcile, and Stacy begins dancing with a new classmate, Matteo. The film ends with the friends holding a bake sale for the retirement home.
