Two separate wedding parties find themselves sharing a single island venue due to a double-booking.
The story
When the weddings of widowed father Jim Caldwell's daughter and Margot Buckley's sister are double-booked at the same small island venue, they both try to preserve the wedding weekend. Jim, an overattentive widower from Atlanta, and Margot, a Los Angeles reality TV showrunner, find themselves forced to share the space. As the two parties navigate the complications of the shared venue, Jim and Margot must find a way to coexist while managing their respective families and the logistical chaos of the overlapping celebrations.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Jim Caldwell, an overattentive Atlanta widower, discovers his daughter Jenni is engaged. He books a wedding at a small inn on Palmetto Island, Georgia, where he and his late wife were married. Simultaneously, Margot Buckley, a Los Angeles showrunner, books the same inn for her sister Neve's wedding. Due to a management error, both parties arrive for the weekend and discover the double-booking. They agree to share the island, including the dock. A rainstorm forces the parties together, leading to interactions between the two families. Jim and Margot find themselves increasingly involved in each other's lives. After a series of mishaps, including a ruined cake and a misunderstanding about a bridesmaid, tensions peak. Following a series of revelations about their families and the status of the weddings, Margot and Jim reconcile. After a series of events including a literal alligator encounter, they realize they have feelings for each other. The film ends with the two families celebrating together at Thanksgiving, with Jim and Margot planning to elope.
