Two people in an online romance are unaware they are also business rivals in the real world.
The story
On Manhattan's Upper West Side, Kathleen Kelly runs an independent children's bookstore. She maintains an intimate online relationship with a stranger under the screen name "Shopgirl" while her partner, Frank, is a local columnist. Meanwhile, Joe Fox, whose family owns a major bookstore chain, is preparing to open a new location nearby. When the two meet in person, they are unaware of each other's online identities and quickly become hostile rivals. As the local community reacts to the competition between the small shop and the corporate chain, the two must navigate their conflicting public roles and private online connections.

Kathleen Kelly runs an independent children's bookstore and maintains an intimate online relationship with 'NY152'. Joe Fox, the owner of a rival bookstore chain, is also in a relationship and is unaware that his online pen pal is Kathleen. When they meet in person, they become bitter rivals. After a publicity campaign by Frank (Kathleen's partner) helps the small shop, business fluctuates. Eventually, Kathleen closes her shop to write books and ends her relationship with Frank. Joe breaks up with his partner and realizes his feelings for Kathleen. He builds a face-to-face relationship with her while continuing their secret online dialogue. Finally, during a meeting arranged by 'NY152', Joe confesses his feelings. Kathleen realizes 'NY152' is Joe and they kiss.
