Full plot (contains spoilers)

Martin lives in Munich’s Schwabing district, aimless and carefree. He earns a living writing hit song lyrics for his employer, Block. Even a burglary he happens to witness does not really interest him. Only his friend Henry persuades him to report the crime to the police. At the police station, he shows such little interest in the investigation that he himself becomes a suspect. However, he manages to escape thanks to the lovely Barbara, whom he met shortly beforehand; she distracts the police with a striptease. Later, Martin is arrested, but his behavior has not changed. Under the watchful eye of the policeman who is trying to arrest him, he handles a pistol listlessly while insisting that it is unloaded. The rattled policeman eventually fires a shot at him, but even that fails to unsettle Martin. He congratulates the policeman on being lucky enough to have only grazed him.
