Full plot (contains spoilers)
Rocco is released from prison on December 31, 1962. His dream is to go to America. Before that, however, he wants to save some money back home in Dudelange and visit his former fiancée, Vero. Rocco’s brother Hartmut is also in love with her, but he is rejected because he cannot express his feelings. Erwin Seebald and Bruno Kurz plan the biggest heist of their lives, but their own incompetence brings them undone. Petz Zamponi and his friends get drunk and carry out idiotic dares to forget about military service. Their paths repeatedly cross with those of the French and Algerian cross-border commuters from Volmerange-les-Mines, who also work at the “Schmelz” and pursue the Luxembourgish girls at the New Year’s Eve ball. Among them is Daniel, a quiet young man who has fallen for Véro Zamponi. After some initial hesitation, she returns his feelings. But her brother Petz’s brutal racism will bring it all to a bloody end.
