Alter und Schönheit (2008)

Three friends meet at Manni’s deathbed. Manni was a successful actor; he has a villa with a pool and a Ferrari parked outside. They haven’t seen one another in a long time and have almost lost touch, but they still feel close. Harry is a womanizer who tries to keep his wife and his lover on the hook with text messages. He will lose them both. Justus is a successful television producer who has to realize that he has become a money-making machine. Bernhard is a teacher who will eventually confess to his wife that he never loved her. Manni wants his friends to find Rosi, the great love he lost, and ask her to visit him. At first Rosi hesitates, but then agrees to see Manni. Despite the serious situation, the friends spend relatively cheerful hours and days together, sometimes with Manni at the hospice and sometimes without him at his villa. They drive around in the Ferrari, listen to old records, and relax in the pool, yet the sadness over unfulfilled goals, false hopes, a life wasted, and Manni’s impending death—which gathers all these feelings together—hangs over all the lightheartedness. During one last trip to the countryside, Manni dies, and his friends stand helplessly around him and the silver Ferrari.
