A weekend in a mountain chalet turns into a clash over property, politics, and how to deal with three unexpected occupants.

The story

Seven friends set out for a weekend at Juliane’s mountain chalet, but with the chairlift out of service they must hike for hours, carrying their provisions over part of the route after a landslide. At the hut, they discover three young strangers—Alma, who is heavily pregnant, Vince, and Tomek—have been staying there for months and refuse to leave. The unexpected occupation sparks a dispute among the friends over property, morality, and how to respond. Their differing circumstances and beliefs sharpen the disagreement, as proposals range from finding the trio another vacant hut to involving the police or forcing them out.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Seven friends want to spend a weekend at Juliane’s chalet in the mountains. The chairlift is out of service, so they have to make a several-hour hike. Lisl brings the provisions, but because of a landslide, they have to carry them themselves for part of the way. Three young strangers—Alma, who is heavily pregnant, Vince, and Tomek—have been staying in the hut for the past few months. The polyamorous trio has no intention of leaving. An argument breaks out over property, ownership, morality, and what to do about the intruders. Paula, the wealthy heiress, would rather drive them out by force. Juliane suggests that the trio move to another vacant hut, while Harry wants to call the police. Edwin, who quit his job at his publishing house because he no longer wants to work for the economic elites, sympathizes with the three. Paula believes avoiding the news is the solution to the world’s problems. Harry, a kitchen fitter, is insolvent. He blames Paula and Pascal in part, because they awarded a contract for a new kitchen to a designer. Ines and her husband Edwin had separated because their political views had since diverged, which comes as a surprise to the group. Paula confesses that she slept with Juliane’s ex-husband, Tobias, twice before their divorce. After being forced out of her job at a television station because of her age, former presenter Ines no longer feels seen and can no longer afford her apartment. After Juliane and Vince spend a night together, Ines tells the group she suspects Juliane has Stockholm syndrome. Juliane then accuses Ines of being jealous because she herself no longer has any joy in her life. Harry and Paula decide to drive the trio out at gunpoint. As Paula aims her hunting rifle at them, a shot goes off, grazing both Ines and Vince. Alma tends to Vince’s wound, and the three decide to move to the hut Juliane suggested. As snow begins to fall, Juliane worries whether they will find the hut in time. She therefore sets out with Edwin and Pascal to look for the trio. However, the hut is empty. Juliane finds the trio huddled together under a blanket. Tomek is injured and has to be supported by Edwin and Pascal. Unable to make it back to the chalet, the six spend the night in a tent. The next morning, Ines, Paula, Harry, and his wife Sanne set out to look for the others. Just before they all return together to Juliane’s chalet, Alma goes into labor.
