Naples. Giuseppe Maisto, known as Peppuccio, is wrongly accused of a crime, convicted, and imprisoned in Poggioreale, but in reality he was framed by the Camorra boss Paolo Giaccone. With the help of a friend, he manages to escape to track down the Camorra boss. He finds him with his lover Dolores, a café-concert singer, and kills him. Peppuccio tells Dolores that Giaccone had wanted to kill her as part of a plot that was attempted. Tired of staying in hiding, Peppuccio goes to the Oliva Verde, a venue run by Giaccone, and kidnaps Nennella, Giaccone’s daughter. He falls in love with her, sparking Dolores’s jealousy.
