After witnessing the killing of a former ETA member, Basque reporter Iona falls in love with Martial Verdier, the police officer who questions her.
The story
Iona, a Basque senior reporter for a Paris daily, is interviewing a friend in Saint-Jean-de-Luz when he is shot dead before her eyes. He is a former ETA member who has left the armed struggle. Soon afterward, police officer Martial Verdier questions Iona; he is brilliant, though his methods are often controversial. Iona unexpectedly falls deeply in love with him and tells him everything, including some professional confidences. Her honesty and naivety may prove to be her undoing.

Iona is Basque and has worked for several years as a senior reporter for a Paris daily newspaper. In Saint-Jean-de-Luz, as she is finishing an interview with a friend, a former ETA member who has given up the armed struggle, he is coldly shot dead before her eyes. Iona is questioned very soon afterward by Martial Verdier, a brilliant police officer whose methods are often controversial. The man she had stopped hoping for has just turned her life upside down: Iona falls madly in love. She tells him everything, including some professional confidences. But her honesty and naivety may well prove to be her undoing...
