Years after their student days, two friends reunite as one tries to confront the other’s corrupt way of life.
The story
Cemil and Âzem, friends from their student years, cross paths again years later. Cemil has become wealthy and married a woman in a coastal city, while Âzem attempts to make him understand the corruption in his way of life. Meanwhile, Melike, the sister of Cemil’s wife, falls in love with Âzem. Their renewed connection brings personal loyalties into contact with a broader critique of social corruption, as Âzem’s own way of life is presented as an alternative. The article describes the setup and the growing conflict but does not provide further details about how the confrontation unfolds.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The film tells of two friends who met during their student years and cross paths again years later. Cemil (Kerim Afşar) has become wealthy and married a woman in a coastal city. Âzem (Yılmaz Güney), meanwhile, tries to explain his friend’s corrupt way of life. In the meantime, Melike (Melike Demirağ), Cemil’s wife’s sister, falls in love with Âzem. At the end of the film, Cemil is forced to confront the truth. The film does not show whom Cemil shoots. Through Âzem and his friend, Yılmaz Güney alludes to the subject of a corrupt social structure. He not only criticizes that social structure but also presents an alternative through Âzem’s way of life.
