Breaking the Ice (2022)

Mira Fink is the captain of an ice hockey team. Alongside her sporting career, she works at her parents’ winery, which she runs with her mother because her grandfather is suffering from progressive dementia. Juggling these responsibilities takes a great deal of discipline; Mira feels responsible for her grandfather, the winery, and the team. A new player, Theresa, who works as a receptionist, unsettles Mira with her carefree and open nature. After Mira’s missing brother Paul reappears, Mira, Theresa, and Paul lose themselves in Vienna’s nightlife. Because Mira is unable to play due to being intoxicated, the coach appoints Steffi captain in her place. During a nighttime outing, Theresa tells Mira that she wants to play in the United States. When Mira locks her grandfather in, she and her mother get into an argument. Her mother accuses Mira of not having taught her to lock people in. Mira replies that, on the contrary, she drives people like her father and Paul away. A romantic relationship develops between Mira and Theresa. Because a talent scout interested in Theresa is expected to attend the final game, Mira and Theresa get into an argument. Theresa is injured, and Mira faces being dropped from the team. However, the majority of the team members vote to give Mira another chance. Mira and Theresa also reconcile. Theresa is invited to a tryout.
