Full plot (contains spoilers)

Miguel Cañete is a young man from a small town with a serious problem: he has been called up for military service in the Navy and doesn’t know where to leave his little brother, Quique, whom he has cared for ever since they were orphaned. He first leaves him at the home of Jacinta, a girl from the town whom he promises to marry when he returns, but Quique doesn’t like it there and runs away, following his brother. Before reporting to the barracks, Miguel leaves Quique with Aunt Enriqueta, who takes him in reluctantly. Because of his naivety, Miguel is subjected to all kinds of pranks and hazing, and his blunders lead Sergeant Canales to arrest him repeatedly. But Quique is not treated well by his aunt, so Miguel takes him along to the barracks. There, the sergeant gives Miguel one day to find somewhere to leave the boy. They happen to meet Julia on the beach, a beautiful and charming blind woman who agrees to look after Quique at her parents’ home. She turns out to be Sergeant Canales’s daughter, and in the end he agrees to keep the boy. The sergeant’s gesture makes Miguel do everything he can to become a good soldier and please his superior. Meanwhile, during Miguel’s visits to his brother, he and Julia fall in love. Julia then undergoes an operation and regains her sight. After the operation, Miguel is reluctant to visit her because he fears that when she sees him, she might think he is ugly, so he volunteers for maneuvers aboard the Dédalo helicopter carrier. After Miguel suffers a minor accident, he is to be taken to the infirmary ashore, but the helicopter pilots fall ill. Miguel proves his worth to everyone by managing to land the helicopter, for which he is decorated, and at last he is reunited with Julia.
