A documentary follows girls in residential youth care as they seek acceptance and security while developing greater independence.
The story
In a residential group for girls receiving out-of-home youth care, children and adolescents live apart from their families of origin for a time, at the request of the youth welfare office and for various reasons. Without their parents, they seek acceptance and a sense of security. With socio-educational support, they work toward becoming self-determined individuals. This documentary accompanies them through that process over two years, consistently adopting their perspective. Frequent handheld camerawork reinforces its observational viewpoint, while the filmmakers deliberately avoid inserting interview sequences.
