Queen Klara has magical powers that allow her to move the season clock from one month to the next. Thus, she rules not only over her kingdom but also over the seasons. Lately, the months have noticed that Queen Klara is growing weaker; they fear that she will consequently lose her magical powers and no longer be able to advance the season clock. The March Woman, her friend September, the vain June, and the other months suspect that the Frosty Prince is behind it all. They are right: the Frosty Prince, disguised as the monk Martin, is indeed working with February to stop Queen Klara from advancing the season clock to March on February 29, so that it will remain February forever. Together, the other months manage to find, in their old spellbook, the recipe for a miraculous potion that could cure the queen. But only humans can solve the riddles and find the corresponding ingredients. The relevant months are allowed to help with each ingredient only once its riddle has been solved. The queen therefore sends the egg girl Luise and the cook Valentin to find the ingredients. The two set off full of hope and find the objects they are looking for, despite the Frosty Prince making their task harder and even trying to stop them. Once they have gathered all the ingredients, everything is threatened by the last February snow, which is absolutely essential, because February refuses to make it snow. Only when the queen and the other eleven months assure him that he is not an unwanted month to them but belongs with them, making them a whole, does he break free from the Frosty Prince’s influence and let it snow. The queen drinks the now-complete potion and grows steadily healthier. The Frosty Prince’s power fades, and he melts away. The season clock, advanced just in time, now ushers in spring, and the March Woman takes over the reign for the next month. The queen’s subjects joyfully celebrate this with a festival.
