The story

Years later, Finn is still receiving treatment from a family-friend psychologist and begins a new course of pills, also prescribed to his twin sister, Sophie. At school, Finn is close to Lena, while Sophie is in a relationship with Malik. At a party, Finn has a disturbing hallucination; the following night, he witnesses a strange ritual involving his family and an unfamiliar elderly woman. After a mysterious force attacks him, Sophie’s behavior changes, leaving Finn increasingly worried about what is happening around him.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

During his childhood, wealthy teenager Finn Bergman suffered trauma related to the suicide of his older sister Anna, who had also tried to murder him before taking her own life. Still receiving treatment from a psychologist who is a family friend and the mother of the girl he has long been infatuated with, Samira, Finn is given a new course of treatment in the form of pills. The same treatment is prescribed for his twin sister, Sophie. Life at school carries on as usual: Finn is very close friends with Lena, Sophie is in a relationship with Malik, and they are all invited to a party by their classmate Leander. At the party, just before he finds the courage to make a move on Samira, Finn has a hallucination in which he sees Samira and Lena passionately kissing. Meanwhile, Finn is deeply worried about his grandfather, who is hospitalized in serious condition and awaiting a delicate operation. The following night, Finn has an even more unsettling vision: he sees a strange ritual involving his parents, Sophie, and an elderly woman he has never seen before. While spying on what is happening, Finn is attacked by a mysterious force and loses consciousness. Starting the next day, Sophie’s personality changes completely: for no apparent reason, she pushes Malik away and begins treating her brother very rudely, despite his deep concern for her. Frustrated by what has happened, Malik arranges to meet Finn at a gas station so they can talk away from prying ears. However, Finn finds him dead in what appears to be a suicide, though the circumstances are very strange. Commissioner Gerber (Leander’s father), however, refuses to investigate and blames everything on drugs the teenagers probably took at the parties they attended. He even searches his son’s room for drugs, but finds nothing. As the school routine continues and Finn finally manages to get in touch with Samira, who he discovers is taking the same medicine as he and his sister, the boy notices a fungus in the pills. His biology teacher tells him it is a powerful hallucinogen and directs him and Lena to someone highly knowledgeable about it, Eliska Novak. When they visit the expert, they learn that she believes the fungus in the pills is something that must be eradicated through an actual exorcism. In exchange for payment, she agrees to come to Finn’s house that evening to perform the ritual. Finn then rushes to the hospital, where he tries to talk to his grandfather about what is happening, just before the old man is taken into the operating room. While the old man is under the knife, Finn has yet another hallucination. That evening, Finn is home alone with Lena and Samira. Samira has shown up after Finn skipped a date they had planned at her house. When Eliska and her son Jiri arrive, the teenagers take part in a ritual over the unconscious Sophie; however, Finn’s parents return unexpectedly and bring everything to an end. The boy realizes that something is wrong with his family too. The three run away and, after having sex together that night, make a plan to solve the mystery. While Samira and Finn go to school as usual and the boy finds himself witnessing Leander’s suicide, which follows a pattern similar to Anna’s, Lena attends a conference undercover and discovers that Finn’s father is running an advertising campaign specifically to promote the pills Finn takes. There, she also learns that Eliska and her son are dead. Before dying, Leander gets some documents to Finn and Samira. The two discover that they were both adopted, as were Finn’s sisters and Leander himself. Soon afterward, Finn speaks at the hospital with Leander’s father, who also seems to know about something dark concerning the boy’s family. Finn and Samira go to the hospital to visit Finn’s grandfather, who apparently suffers cardiac arrest and is pronounced dead. The boy approaches the old man, but at that moment a doctor attacks him from behind and sedates him. The two teenagers then find themselves prisoners in the boy’s family home. There, they discover that their parents are actually reincarnated demons, members of an elite that has been reincarnating in the bodies of unsuspecting teenagers for generations in order to escape death. The teenagers were adopted for precisely this purpose: Anna, Leander, and Sophie have already undergone the procedure, although the attempt to use medical means failed with the first two. The demon destined for Finn is the very one he has always known as his grandfather, who awakens, ready to transfer into the young man’s body. However, Lena’s intervention saves the situation: she frees Samira and, while the demons are absorbed in their ritual, incapacitates them with flames and frees Finn as well. The three manage to escape, overcoming further trials set in their path by the surviving demons, but at the end it is revealed that Samira may already be the reincarnation of one of them.
