Der Gejagte - Im Netz der Camorra (2022)

After his violent conflict with his childhood friend Nino Sorrentino, winemaker Matteo DeCanin strikes a deal with the prosecution: he is to testify as a key witness against the Casavatore clan. In return, he, his wife Stefania, and his daughter Laura are to be placed in the witness protection program and given new identities. However, Stefania is murdered before Matteo can be taken to safety with his family. Matteo and Laura are subsequently placed under police protection on a small island off the coast of Italy. While Matteo awaits the trial at which he is expected to testify against the Camorra, mobster Antonia Romano and her men try to find a lead to the DeCanins. After several months in isolation, Laura can no longer stand the lonely life with her father and runs away. Matteo sets out to look for her, hoping to find her before she falls into the Mafia’s hands. He receives help from Carabinieri officer Erlacher. In the meantime, Antonia Romano manages to capture Laura. Erlacher and the police, however, manage to rescue Laura unharmed. Before Laura and Matteo are finally due to go to court, he says goodbye to her at the harbor, where he is shot from a boat.
