Book is tasked with separating them without revealing their family connection, though he is unsure about taking on the scheme. His efforts are complicated by his sister Rita, who was Hanno’s childhood sweetheart and is organizing the wedding celebration. Meanwhile, Book’s attention to the matter strains his relationship with his girlfriend Sabine, who tells him she plans to go abroad for a while.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Bodo Schüler seizes the opportunity when Pastor Stefan Book addresses love and relationships in his Sunday sermon and asks him for help. His son Hanno has fallen in love with none other than his illegitimate daughter, Ina, and is determined to marry her. Stefan Book is supposed to use his influence to break the two of them up without them finding out about their family relationship. Although the pastor is not convinced by Schüler’s request, he tries his luck at splitting up the newly lovestruck couple. But, of all people, Book’s sister Rita works against him: she was Hanno’s childhood sweetheart and is supposed to organize the wedding celebration for him. Stefan Book is therefore at his wits’ end, and he is also neglecting his girlfriend, Sabine. When she tells him she is going abroad for a while, Book is inclined to drop everything at short notice and go with her. Rita accidentally learns about Hanno and Ina’s family relationship. She immediately informs the two of them, which makes Hanno so furious that he beats up his own father. He suspects his father simply does not want him to be happy and that the whole thing is something he made up. Ina, meanwhile, is devastated, but she had not counted on Rita Book’s determination. Rita promptly had a DNA test done, which now proves that although Ina is Bodo’s daughter, Hanno is not his biological son. So the wedding can go ahead as planned after all, and Book’s young colleague, Anke Bertram, gets to carry out her first major official duty. In the end, however, Pastor Stefan Book does not follow through with his personal plan to accompany his girlfriend Sabine. His congregation has grown too dear to him for him to want to leave it.
