Full plot (contains spoilers)
Captain Richard Wüst, who has been awarded the Knight’s Cross but is critical of the Nazi regime, is sent by his general to Hitler’s bunker in April 1945 to report directly to Adolf Hitler on the situation at the front and request reinforcements, but repeatedly fails in his attempts to meet the Führer. Just as Hitler orders the S-Bahn tunnels to be blown up to stop the Soviet Red Army’s advance—thereby sacrificing the lives of thousands of Berliners who have taken refuge in the tunnels—Wüst is admitted to see the Führer.
