Full plot (contains spoilers)
Theobald Langendorff, a landowner who wants to protect himself from Matthesius, a neighbor he fears may interfere in his affairs, hires the private investigator Bruch. Meanwhile, Theobald’s nephew is planning to marry Ilse, a dancer, and wants to take possession of his share of the inheritance. To obtain it, however, all the family members must agree. Young Helmut runs into an obstacle in the form of Julia, Theobald’s sister, who refuses to give her consent. He then asks his uncle Hans-Heinz for help, and Hans-Heinz threatens to publish his memoirs, which feature the family members. The issue stirs everyone up a little, but Ilse, tired of waiting for the situation to be resolved, calls her agent, determined to sign a new contract. Helmut then loads the family’s sow into the car, threatening to take her to the slaughterhouse. At that point, tempers cool and, at last, peace returns to the family.
