Full plot (contains spoilers)
The writer Paul Anderen (Benoît Magimel), who is married and has two children, Clément and Manon, sees his wife Sarah (Audrey Tautou) suddenly disappear without any explanation. After a year of fruitless searching, he decides to move away from places that have become painful for him and reconnects with his long-neglected family somewhere in the Dinard/Saint-Malo area. He then begins rebuilding his life, made all the harder by the fact that he does not know what has become of his wife. His brother Alex (Antoine Duléry) hires him as an instructor at his driving school. Paul strikes up a friendship with Samir (Ramzy Bedia), a mover and the father of Yamine, who is Clément’s classmate. Samir is no longer allowed to see Yamine, but one day he comes to pick him up from school anyway. Paul offers to put them up. The next morning, Samir agrees to let Paul take Yamine back to his mother (Lubna Azabal). Meanwhile, the police show up at Paul’s home and try to arrest Samir. He flees, is hit by a van, and dies.
