Die Käserei in Goldingen (2010)

Hans is an older, stubborn and withdrawn cheesemaker at a village dairy. He has to fight for every customer. His only longtime employee is retiring. Hans can barely manage the work alone anymore, the quality is suffering, and his best customer takes his business elsewhere. The cheese merchant has to deliver this devastating news. Hans’s son-in-law offers him a job at the cheese factory where he himself works as head of marketing. One morning, a coughing African refugee is found in the goat shed at Hans’s remote home. He says he entered Switzerland illegally and is looking for work so he can pay for an urgently needed eye operation for his daughter. On the advice of Hans’s daughter Maria, a nurse, Rashid is reluctantly taken in and cared for at the house. When Rashid proves to be a helpful and resourceful worker at the dairy, Hans gradually warms to him, and his strained relationship with his grandchildren, Mirjam and Roman Arnold, also begins to improve.
