Der weiße Afrikaner (2004)

The film is set at the end of the 19th century. In 1893, after his father is murdered in South Africa, Hans Merensky, who is of German descent, has to leave his home there. Taken in by a military family in Berlin, he grows up alongside the family’s two children, Albrecht and Charlotte. Albrecht sees Hans as the ideal husband for his sister Charlotte. But Hans never really feels at home in Germany, because he is always thinking of South Africa, his true home. After taking up geology as a profession, Hans returns to South Africa despite disappointing his family in Berlin. Once there, Hans sets out in search of mineral resources and finds himself in a rivalry with his former friend and stepbrother Albrecht, who, like Hans, has made his way to South Africa. Complicating matters, they both love the same woman, Rosa von Zülow, further intensifying the rivalry between them.
