Full plot (contains spoilers)
The story takes place in Sweden and the northern polar region. Friends Björn and Sigurd end up, amid turbulent circumstances, aboard the ship of the violent Captain Gaustad, which is setting out to hunt seals. Events then spiral out of control aboard the ship, and after intrigues, rape, mutiny, and a shipwreck, the survivors reach the pack ice. There, split into two groups, they try to make their way back to solid ground. The group of “villains” gradually perishes, while the consistently “good” characters, after surviving adventures such as polar-bear attacks and chases, reach their home village with the help of the friendly and peaceful Sámi. A showdown takes place there, and in the end the two protagonists, Sigurd and Björn, are able to embrace their wives, Karin and Liv.
