Diebinnen (1996)

Klara Herzog, Sabine Heyer, and Michaela Ritter don’t know one another, yet they have one thing in common: they’re all thoroughly frustrated with their lives and the men around them, and are determined to change things. Klara, the oldest of the three at 53, is a mother of two, a housewife, and the wife of real estate agent Karl Herzog. She also takes out her frustrations by shoplifting. When she is caught, she is brought before Sabine, a young public prosecutor who has troubles of her own in her private life. Michaela Ritter, an expert in installing alarm systems, eventually joins the two women. At a cocktail party hosted by the Herzogs, all three meet again and, by chance, are inspired to play detective. At that same party, the prosecutor spots a man she knows because of his criminal past: a cunning tax evader she has always wanted to put behind bars. The three women decide to try their hand at burglary and theft, breaking into his home in the hope of finding incriminating material and taking it with them so he can be prosecuted. Michaela is an expert, after all, who knows not only how to install alarm systems but also how to turn them off. And so the three set off on their first burglary …
