She dreams of love, hats, and Italy. Their friend Ollier is also weighing a departure, choosing between going to the front and moving to the United States to play baseball. Meanwhile, his beloved Marguerite longs for women’s emancipation and the chance to fly a Spitfire. The four characters face different possibilities for love, escape, and a future shaped by war.
