The story

Claire returns as an adult to her childhood home, where she has been in a wheelchair since losing a foot in an accident at age six. Her sister Rita was blamed for the accident, though she believes she was not responsible. Claire has returned to ask their mother for money for an operation, and Rita’s anger toward her grows into hatred. Rita believes Claire is responsible for their mother distancing herself from Rita after the accident, and that her sister’s behavior cost her their mother’s love over the years.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Claire returns to her childhood home as an adult. She has been in a wheelchair since childhood, having lost a foot in an accident when she was six. Her sister Rita can feel nothing but anger toward her, because Rita was blamed for the tragic accident at the time. Rita is convinced that she was not responsible for what happened back then. When Rita realizes that Claire has returned only to beg their mother for money for an operation, her anger toward her sister grows beyond measure and turns to hatred. Rita decides to take revenge on Claire. She is firmly convinced that Claire is responsible for their mother distancing herself from Rita after Claire’s accident, and that Rita had to go without their mother’s love all these years because of her sister’s behavior. She sees her own life as bleak and unhappy. So she does not tell Claire that their mother died some time ago, and she also does not want Claire to find out that their mother changed her will in favor of the sister Rita hates.
