The story

After attempting to rape a supermarket cashier, Thorben is admitted to a psychiatric clinic, escapes, and hitchhikes to Berlin to find Richard, the father he has never met. Richard, once reputed to be a womanizer, now fails in his efforts to flirt and refuses prostate cancer treatment because he fears losing his potency. He initially wants nothing to do with Thorben, but takes him in after realizing his son wants help with women. Their attempts to approach women in bars and clubs fail, so, on a friend’s recommendation, they attend a multi-day seduction workshop led by a female pick-up coach.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After attempting to rape a cashier at a supermarket, Thorben is admitted to a psychiatric clinic. He escapes and hitchhikes to Berlin to look for his father, Richard. He has never met his father, but his mother told him that Richard was a womanizer, supposedly known as “the Stud of Wuppertal.” Richard still prides himself on his old tales of conquest, but these days his constant attempts to flirt are unsuccessful. Richard is also seriously ill with prostate cancer, but refuses treatment so as not to jeopardize his potency. Thorben visits Richard at his apartment in an old Berlin building, but at first Richard wants nothing to do with his son. Only when Richard realizes that Thorben needs help with women does he take him in. The father-and-son duo sets out for a booze-fueled night of chatting up women in bars and clubs, but they fail at every turn. On the recommendation of Thorben’s buddy Kevin, the two soon attend a multi-day “seduction workshop” led by female pick-up coach “Wilson” Donavan. Wilson claims, among other things, to personally know seduction artists such as Erik von Markovik, repeats misogynistic and masculinist narratives, and takes the workshop participants “hunting.” At a cocktail bar, Richard successfully picks up a young woman named Milena in front of the other participants and spends the night with her. Thorben discovers, however, that Milena is a prostitute hired by Wilson, and uses this to blackmail Wilson: Wilson has to pay for Milena to accompany Richard on his vacation to Greece, where Richard celebrates his 50th birthday with Thorben and the workshop participants. Soon afterward, Richard dies of his cancer.
