Братан (1991)

In a town, two brothers live together: the older Farukh and the younger Azamat, also known as Ponchik. Their father left the family, their mother died soon afterward, and now they live with their grandmother. Farukh sets off to visit their father and takes Ponchik with him. In fact, he makes the trip intending to leave Azamat with their father. They travel on a narrow-gauge freight train driven by an acquaintance of theirs. The journey makes up most of the film. The train periodically stops at various places, where the driver picks something up or hands something over. Sometimes new passengers join them. When they arrive, the brothers go to their father’s home, where they meet an unfamiliar woman. The older brother quietly says that he would like to leave the younger one there, and that Ponchik himself very much wants this. But he tells Ponchik that he absolutely has to stay with their father, and that it is their father who wants this. A few days later, Farukh himself jumps aboard the train back. During a stop, Ponchik is in the freight car beneath a tarpaulin, crying and unwilling to part from his brother.
