A blackmailed businessman plots to kill his wealthy wife on safari, while her growing closeness with a jungle hunter stokes his jealousy.

The story

Businessman Robert Franklin has concealed the murder of his first wife as an accident for years, while her brother, Mr. Murphy, blackmails him. At Murphy’s demand, Robert and his wealthy wife Barbara travel to Kenya, where Murphy threatens to expose the crime unless paid. Unable to obtain another bank loan, Robert is persuaded to plan Barbara’s death during a safari, disguising it as an accident and collecting on a recently taken-out life-insurance policy. Barbara insists that Peter, a jungle hunter she met by chance, accompany them; Peter recruits Johnny as a second companion. Peter and Barbara develop an intimate friendship, provoking Robert’s pathological jealousy and a fierce rivalry between the two men.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Robert Franklin is a businessman who murdered his first wife many years ago but made her death appear to be an accident. Ever since, he has been blackmailed by her brother, Mr. Murphy, who knows about the murder. At Murphy’s request, Robert and his wife Barbara travel to Kenya to see him. There, Murphy threatens to expose the murder unless Robert pays him a large sum of money. When Robert can no longer get a loan from the banks, Murphy persuades him to pursue a plan to kill his wealthy wife on safari and collect on a life insurance policy taken out shortly beforehand. The murder is to be disguised as an accident in the jungle. By chance, Robert’s wife Barbara had earlier met Peter, a jungle hunter, and insists on taking him along as a companion through the jungle. Peter, in turn, manages to recruit Johnny as a second companion. Johnny has increasingly turned to alcohol since a hunting accident. An intimate friendship develops between Peter and Barbara, which does not escape her husband Robert, who suffers from pathological jealousy. A fierce rivalry consequently develops between Robert and Peter, escalating as the film progresses. In the African bush, Robert makes several attempts to kill his wife, but Peter and Johnny—whose role initially seems dubious—ultimately manage to stop him. After Robert flees alone following a shootout with Peter, having first killed a man, the various jungle tribes set out to search for the murderer. His fate in the jungle is sealed by a predator.
