The story

Sebastian Klein, a celebrated German author of African and German parentage, travels around Germany to promote his latest book and visits the small town of Prittwitz. There, local neo-Nazis hit him on the head, leaving him without his long-term memory. Sebastian begins repeating almost everything people say to him. Sven, a leader of a modern national-democratic party, sees an opportunity and deploys Sebastian as a spokesperson against integration, including at public appearances. Sebastian’s heavily pregnant girlfriend Nina sees him on television and then encounters him at one of these events. Horrified, she teams up with Sascha, a former police officer who quit because of the local Nazis, to try to save Sebastian.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The writer Sebastian Klein, the son of one African and one German parent, is one of Germany’s most famous authors. To promote his latest book, he travels around Germany giving readings, and thus visits the small town of Prittwitz. After arriving, he is hit on the head by local neo-Nazis and consequently loses his long-term memory. He now repeats almost everything other people say to him, like a parrot. Sven, the political leader of a modern national-democratic party, recognizes the opportunity and uses Sebastian as a spokesperson against integration, particularly at public appearances to which Sebastian regularly receives invitations. When Sebastian’s heavily pregnant girlfriend Nina sees him first on television and then in person at one such event, she is horrified and follows him with Sascha, who quit his job as a police officer because of the local Nazis, in order to save Sebastian from the neo-Nazis.
