Il testimone invisibile (2018)

Adriano Doria is a wealthy, well-known businessman accused of murdering his lover, Laura Vitale. To help him, his lawyer calls in Virginia Ferrara, a prominent criminal defense attorney, who needs to know the truth in order to prepare his defense in court. Doria tells her that he had gone to a hotel room with Vitale to meet a blackmailer who had threatened to expose their secret relationship. But there, the man was suddenly attacked, and when he came to, he found the woman murdered and surrounded by the blackmail money. The police arrived immediately and arrested him. This is Adriano Doria’s version of events, but Virginia wants to know how it is connected to Daniele Garri’s disappearance, which happened some time earlier. Another story then begins: during a romantic getaway, Adriano and Laura have a car accident when a deer darts into their path just as Daniele Garri’s car approaches from the opposite direction. Garri dies in the collision. To keep their secret affair from being discovered, Adriano and Laura decide to hide his body. Guilt and insecurity torment Adriano, but not Laura, whom he worries is far too calm and cold. The man tries to pin responsibility for Garri’s death on Laura, who, he says, was killed by the young man’s father in order to frame Adriano, whom the father considers responsible for his son’s death. The truth, however, turns out to be quite different.
