Inga Lindström: Wolken über Sommarholm (2006)

Working as a pediatric nurse no longer fulfills Britta Katting. She now wants to go to university after all and become a pediatrician. Her boyfriend, Dr. Martin Winter, is not very enthusiastic about the idea. He would rather have everything stay the way it was. After they argue about it, Britta accompanies her friend Stine to Sommarholm estate, where the Rosen family needs help with a photo shoot. There they meet Conrad Rosen and his son Benny, who soon suffers an asthma attack and can only be saved thanks to Britta’s professional help. Since Conrad Rosen’s wife, Ulrika, does not take enough care of the child, Conrad offers Britta a job as a nanny. It is not long before the two grow closer. But then Conrad’s brother Philip suddenly turns up at the estate again. Shortly beforehand, Britta had seen Ulrika with a strange man; it now turns out that the man was Philip. Apparently, the two are having an affair, but Britta does not dare tell Conrad. Philip has returned for only one reason: he wants his share of the inheritance so he can buy his farm in Argentina. But Conrad cannot pay him off because Sommarholm estate is on the verge of insolvency. Since Philip is Ella Rosen’s favorite son, she wants him to receive the money. As time goes by, it emerges that Ulrika married Conrad only because Philip had abandoned her back then. Britta suspects that Benny’s asthma is psychosomatic, which is later confirmed. Stine also discovers that Ulrika’s name is not really Ulrika and that she does not come from a wealthy German aristocratic family either. Ella Rosen overhears Stine and Britta talking about this and demands that Britta leave Sommarholm estate immediately and have no further contact with Conrad or Benny. After a few misunderstandings, Ulrika goes back to Argentina with Philip after he receives the money from his mother. Britta returns to Sommarholm after Conrad confesses his love for her.
