Full plot (contains spoilers)

Having accepted challenges to fight three times in one day, Fan Dabei, an expert in the kung fu style known as Drunken Fist, rests in a teahouse and gives himself over to memories... Two grape thieves, Dabei and Huazi, are caught by Master Zhang and made to work off what they stole. One day, the two try to stop local thugs from beating townspeople who have not paid them for protection, but both are beaten by Jin, a fighter working for Ye Hu. Teacher Zhang rescues the two, and they then escape. Seeing virtue in the hearts of his young men, Zhang Qi agrees to teach them the “Eighteen Falls of the Wine Genius,” a form of Drunken Fist kung fu. Believing that Zhang Qi sent two hired killers (they were actually two disgruntled merchants), Ye invites him to dinner, planning to kill his guest. However, the conspirators make one mistake: they get him drunk. During the fight that breaks out, Teacher Zhang puts the jade cup—a family heirloom—from which he had been drinking into his bag. Ye Hu’s men are unable to lay a hand on their guest, and only when Ye Hu and Jin join forces do Dabei and Huazi save their teacher. Seeing the trio escape, Hu decides to seize the wine shop where the fugitives work. Zhang Qi sends his students to return Ye’s jade cup. Ye’s men attack the young men, and the cup is smashed in the fight. Ye’s henchmen use a net to catch their opponents and tie them up. Jin goes to the wine shop and kills its owner, Wang, while Ye kidnaps Wang Yulu, his daughter. Ye is about to demolish the building when Zhang Qi arrives. Meanwhile, the captives, Dabei and Huazi, free themselves, run to the wine shop, and confront Ye Hu alongside Yulu. Together with their teacher, who has been wounded in a fight with Hu, they hide in a cave, but Hu’s gang is hot on their trail. In the ensuing fight, Ye Hu and Jin are defeated, Yulu falls off a cliff, and Zhang Qi dies... Fan Dabei looks at the teahouse sign: “Yulu.” Could it be? After all these years? Yes! She survived the fall and opened a teahouse, while Huazi became a fighter. At last, Teacher Fan chases after Yulu, just as he did long ago.
