Full plot (contains spoilers)

Returning from vacation with her sister Martine (Nicole Berger), Juliette Valendor (Dany Robin), a dreamy young woman with a romantic nature, reluctantly accepts the middle-aged fiancé her domineering mother (Denise Grey) has chosen for her: the very society-minded Prince Hector d'Alpen (Bernard Lancret). On the return train, she gets the chance to meet the man of her dreams in the person of André Landrecourt (Jean Marais), a lawyer. But André does not immediately realize that the woman of his life is right in front of him. Because of a forgotten cigarette case and a missed train, he puts Julietta up for a night in his house in Poitiers. But the next day, she boldly refuses to leave. Pretending to be naïve, she settles into the attic of the lawyer's house and insinuates herself into his life. The unexpected arrival of André's fiancée, the capricious Rosie Farabey (Jeanne Moreau), the prince of Alpen's former mistress, gives rise to a string of comic situations: André, frantically racing around the house, must at all costs prevent the two women from meeting. Outraged by André's astonishingly cool and distant reception, Rosie decides to end their relationship and leaves on the prince's arm. Finally aware of Julietta's charm, André joins his love in the attic. Julietta's dreams and fantasies finally come true. She has found her ideal husband, her happiness, her Prince Charming.
