A documentary examines Mediterranean rescue missions, refugee experiences and the political forces shaping migration policy.

The story

The documentary follows rescue missions in the Mediterranean and explores living conditions in camps along Europe’s external borders. Refugees who have survived the dangerous journey to Europe share personal stories of flight. These accounts are placed alongside an examination of the relationship between government policy and civic engagement, and how a societal shift to the right affects migration policy. The film also looks at the growing criminalization of migration and the challenges facing humanitarian organizations such as Sea-Eye, while considering how fear-based discourse and populist narratives shape the political agenda.
