Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film is set toward the end of the Second World War. Germany has lost the war, yet boys are still volunteering to fight for Hitler. Near Stettin, the front is already close. A group of high-school students fanatically goes off to war. Their mothers, however, refuse to accept that their sons should still die for the Führer in the final months of the war, and set out to find them. They learn that the boys belong to Captain Dornberg’s group. And indeed, they manage to track them down. At the front, they encounter stubborn officers and disillusioned soldiers. The only ones who are motivated are their own sons, who refuse to go home with their mothers under any circumstances. An older, experienced soldier, who likewise cannot accept that these boys should die needlessly, eventually hides the mothers and their sons in a barn as the front continues to move west.
