Twelve women look back on their schooldays together in 1930s Ulm, where political divisions shaped the classroom.
The story
In this documentary, twelve women recall the schooldays they shared in Ulm during the 1930s. Some now live in the United States and Israel. Their memories describe girls from Jewish and Christian backgrounds and the differing attractions the Hitler Youth held for them. They also recount divisions among classmates: Christian, middle-class pupils on one side, and Jewish girls and girls from social-democratic backgrounds on the other. The film presents their recollections of growing up together amid these divides.
