Full plot (contains spoilers)
In their fifties, Daniel and Alain have been friends for many years. Daniel is married to Isabelle, with whom he has a son, Cédric. Alain has been married to Fanny for 18 years. They have a daughter together, Émilie. One evening, while having dinner with friends and family, Daniel gets a phone call and collapses when he learns that Julien, his older son from his first marriage to Anne-Marie, has been in a serious motorcycle accident. Rushing to the clinic, Daniel and his wife are greeted by the doctor, who tells them that Julien needs immediate surgery. Although his life is not in danger, the boy is left quadriplegic. At work, Daniel is in tears when he meets with Judith, an attractive young woman, to discuss a project. Before long, Daniel falls under her spell and begins an affair with her. He also visits Julien regularly as he undergoes a lengthy rehabilitation. Alain, who runs a shop selling African art objects, has been having an affair for some time with Farida, his young Senegalese saleswoman. Still unsure about leaving Fanny, Alain devises a scheme to keep seeing Farida. He decides to buy her a shop of her own at the end of the street. Suspecting that Alain is unfaithful, Nicole, Fanny’s sister, makes life impossible for Farida in an effort to get rid of her. As his feelings for Judith grow stronger, Daniel decides to tell Isabelle everything, though he is not sure he wants to leave her. In the end, however, he does, much to Cédric’s dismay. Furious, the boy angrily rejects his father, hurling insults at him. But Daniel makes him understand that he has no right to interfere in his private life. Unable to choose between Fanny and Farida, Alain sinks into depression and goes to a specialized treatment facility. During his stay, he ultimately decides to give up Farida and stay with Fanny, realizing that he has always loved her and does not want to hurt their daughter. Back home, Alain and Fanny rekindle a passionate sex life. The story ends happily for both men: Alain, who stayed, enjoys a happy life with Fanny (at the wheel of a beautiful Testarossa). Daniel, who left, has rediscovered his zest for life alongside Judith and his sons, Julien and Cédric.
