After witnessing a political murder, a film producer must decide whether to identify the people responsible.

The story

One morning, film producer Michel Jussieu returns to a cabaret to retrieve a sweater and inadvertently witnesses the murder of a far-right journalist. He recognizes Éléonore and Patrice, members of a secret political organization he has known since the Resistance years. Knocked unconscious, Michel wakes in the presence of Commissioner Malferrer, who is investigating the murder. Though innocent, Michel denies involvement but cannot bring himself to denounce the people he recognized. The situation revives memories of an interrogation twenty years earlier, when he broke down before the Gestapo, leaving him torn over whether to remain silent or name the culprits.
