La finestra sul Luna Park (1957)

The sudden misfortune that befalls young Ada brings her husband Aldo back to the village. He had emigrated to Africa for work as a bricklayer. However, he is unable to make Mario recognize him as his father, since the boy had practically never seen him and is therefore cold and distant toward him. Mario spends his days out in the street with his young friends, and his guiding figure is Righetto, a simple, kind-hearted man who gets by on occasional, menial jobs and, during the father’s long absences, had looked after Mario and his mother with a pure and uncomplicated affection. This is shown in the film through long flashback scenes. Righetto helps Aldo understand what happened during his absence and win his son’s affection.
